Motivation in the Classroom

Simpopoly!
Based off the very popular board game of Monopoly, Simpopoly was created. Students came up with and decided on the name. Every Friday students will get to roll for Simpopoly by having good behavior, completing classroom work on time and with great quality, and students will roll if they have achieved any of their classroom goals for reading or math. Students can earn coupons to use in the classroom, snacks, or economy money.

Wow Wall!
When a student does well on an assignment I place a "WOW!" at the top of their paper. Students then take their paper home, show it off to their parents and have a parent sign the paper. Students then can bring back their papers and hang them on the Wow Wall! There is a special reward at the end of each grading period for the number of "wows" a student has. Also, each student will receive "wows" based off their ability level, not necessarily a letter grade.

Friday Binders!
Friday Binders have been a huge hit with parents this year! Students have their own personal Friday Binder. In this binder a packet of our classroom rules and procedures are kept at all time. Also, the parent-teacher-student contract is kept here. Another section of the binder is "weekly grades". I enter grades daily so the student’s grades are always up to date. Every Friday I print off their grades for parents to see and sign (letting me know they saw their child's grades). The third section of the binder is for student’s weekly behavior sheets. Parents will see if their child completed their classroom work, if they have any missing assignments or if they had any issues with behavior. The final section of the binder is for our weekly newsletter. One the newsletter parents and students will have a sneak peek into reading, writing, math and science for the upcoming week. Also, there will be any upcoming events, outstanding student activity or something special that students did during the week. Parents are required to sign behavior sheets and grades every Friday.

ISTEP Incentives
I will meet with each student one on one to discuss what they think their goals should be for ISTEP+ and what steps they will take to reach those goals. This is done at the beginning of the year and again before ISETP+. This helps all my students but especially my students who lack motivation and struggle in the classroom.

Acuity Incentives!
I meet with students in the fall, winter and spring before each Acuity test is taken to discuss their goals.
