Writing with Rubrics...
In the writing classroom students learn how to create rubrics that improve their writing skills for the ISTEP test. Our class uses the rubrics to understand how writing prompts will be graded when taking the ISTEP test. Students practice writing prompts and grade each other’s writing using the rubric that was created by the class. Students complete the lesson ready and confident to pass the ISTEP writing prompt.

Writing Matters!
Every unit of writing I try to tie it into real life situations. During our persuasive unit students decided to write persuasive letters to parents and community leaders to help them reach their already goal of donating $200.00 to Riley's Children Hospital. Student’s care about their writing when they know whom their audience is and they care about their topic.

Flat Stanley and his Basketball Adventures!
My students wanted to write Flat Stanley stories and the adventures Stanley could go on. I had the girls varsity basketball team surprise my students by having them write adventures they had with Stanley on the basketball court.
